Britannia Beach, Squamish, B.C.
Located in the heart of the Sea to Sky corridor between Vancouver and Whistler, Britannia is a historic settlement originally built to support a copper mine. In 2000, Macdonald Development acquired 10,000 acres of land, encompassing the original workers’ homes and the town center. In 2004, 197 lots were subdivided and sold, with MDC dedicating 9500 acres of land back to the Province to enable remediation of the environmental legacy left behind by the mine. With the clean-up measures fully implemented for a number of years now, 2011 saw fish returning to Britannia Creek for the first time in over seventy years.
Zoning is currently in place for a new commercial and retail development incorporating many renovated historic buildings.
